High fashion to High Street.
The designers are relieved to be back in New York City after spending a few days in the wilderness for an unconventional materials challenge.
They go on a bus that takes them uptown...More specifically, to Harlem. Venny questions if they will go to Dapper Dan's? Well, he is correct about that. Alongside Karlie is Dapper Dan. Dapper Dan is well-known for revolutionizing hip-hop fashion by creating luxury streetwear in the 1990s. The designers are ecstatic to meet him. Dapper Dan started 'logomania' which is to have logos be viewed the same as furs and diamonds are.
Day One
The Challenge
The challenge is for the designers is to create a look that is "casual and luxe at the same time". Streetwear is not big in Colombia, according to Sebastian, so he seems a little uneasy going into this challenge. Karlie informs the designers that there will not be a trip to Mood, a fabric store. Instead, the designers are supplied with high-end fabrics to use in order to create their looks. The designers are limited on time to create their look...Only until midnight. Dapper Dan is going to stop by the workroom the next day to check on the progress the designers make, but he will not be judging any of the designers' looks.
The Workroom
The designers hop, skip, and get right to it as they pick out fabrics to use for their garments. The designers brainstorm what they will incorporate as their signature. Garo is creating a corset for his look. Lela chooses recycled triangles and forest green fabric. Kovid decides to take a risk by creating an oversized jacket to be worn on top of blue culottes. Kovid's look will pay homage to the communities that supported Kovid when he moved to Brooklyn. Jamall, known for his puffer-aesthetic looks, decides to tame the puff down on the dress he makes. Sebastian feels lost about what he wants to make with the fabric he has.Venny's look is inspired by a pair of sneakers he wanted when he was younger, but was unable to afford them. Meanwhile, Bishme's look is inspired by his childhood in Baltimore, Maryland. Bishme is working on making a bomber jacket that will pay tribute to where he grew up.
Christian Siriano steps into the workroom to get a sneak peek of what the designers are working on. Tessa makes her first pair of harem pants. She is also working on making a puff bomber jacket. She plans to sew her logo in the interior of the jacket. Rakan is incorporating Syrian streetwear with U.S. American streetwear, as inspired by Syrian female farmers' shawls. Hester Sunshine is making a rococo boxing look with biker shorts and a bomber jacket that will have a cape attached to it. Christian is not thrilled with Jamall's look, and even says that "is literally gonna look like a tea party dress". (Oh?)
Christian informs the designers that this is a flash sale challenge. This means that the designers must take pictures of their looks on the street to post on Bravo's Instagram. America will vote for their favorite look. The winning look will be manufactured on demand by Nineteenth Amendment and sold on bravotv.com.
At this point in the day, the designers have four and a half hours left to work on their looks. The designers have 30 minutes with their models for fittings. Sebastian does not have a vision for his look, but his goal is to create a look that is "shiny and loud". Jamall calls Christian over to get his opinion on the dress he is working on. Christian is not a fan of all of the quilting Jamall plans on doing for the dress. Bishme, Tessa, and Venny are hard at work with their model fittings. While the model fittings are going on, Jamall, Rakan, and Kate, Jamall's model, who are sitting at a table eating and conversing each other. Christian confronts them and advises, "Time management, that's all I'm saying." (Oh snap!)
The designers say goodbye to their models, and power through to work on their looks. Hester makes some "strange decisions" due to the lack of time. Tessa paints her logo on the fabric that will make up the interior of the bomber jacket. She scurries around the work room in order for the glaze on the fabric to dry. (Run like the wind, girl!)
Rakan compares Sebastian's look to the clothing that people wore in the Disney movie, Aladdin. Rakan is unfamiliar with American streetwear. Sebastian is disappointed with his look, but he is just trying to make the best of it. The designers' energy is draining at this point in the evening with their being two hours left until the end of their day to work on their looks. According to Sonia, there is "barely any time to go to the bathroom".
The pressure is getting to Kovid, but he is doing his best to maintain a positive state of mind. Meanwhile, Garo is getting annoyed because he is making his work more difficult, being that he bites off more than he can chew. Hester is working on the bomber jacket. The designers rewind at their penthouse apartment after a long day of work.
Day Two
Runway
Dapper Dan stops by the workroom to see what the designers are working on. Dapper Dan is impressed with Hester and Bishme's looks so far. Jamall still has a lot of sewing to do before the runway. Kovid is a little worried about his look. The models head into hair and makeup, and then have mini photoshoots with the designers for the flash sale. The runway show starts. There is also is a guest judge.
Results
The following designers are safe and make it to the next round: Lela, Tessa, Renee, Sonia, Sebastian, and Hester.
Karlie and the judges choose the final six: Kovid, Jamall, Bishme, Rakan, Venny, and Garo. Of that six, Kovid, Jamall, and Rakan represent the bottom looks. Bishme is the winner of the challenge. Kovid is eliminated from the competition.
